The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit has entered a critical phase, and there is an important action we are requesting you to take now. It will require just a few moments of your time.
In our April 26, 2026 weekly Bulletin, we provided information on the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit and asked everyone to contact Governor Kathy Hochul to opt in to enable New York taxpayers to take advantage of it. As you may know, Governor Hochul has publicly expressed her intention to opt New York into the program once final federal regulations are released. While this is positive news, the formal opt-in process is not yet complete. The New York State Catholic Conference encourages New Yorkers to continue expressing their support as the process moves toward completion.
If implemented in New York, the program could provide millions of dollars in privately funded scholarships through programs like the Brooklyn Diocese’s Futures in Education to help families with educational expenses, including tuition, tutoring, technology, special education services, and other academic support for both public and private school students.
We ask that you:
- Thank Governor Hochul for her support of the program
- Encourage New York’s formal participation once federal regulations are finalized
- Share this opportunity with others who support educational opportunities for families
